Gelasios of Kyzikos

   Fifth-century church historian who wrote a history of the church during Constantine I the Great's (q.v.) reign that survives to 335. It bears resemblance to the work of Eusebios of Caesarea (q.v.), as well as to the work of Eusebios's fifth-century continuators Sokrates, Sozeomenos, and Theodoret of Cyrrhus (qq.v.), all of whom relied on the lost church history of Gelasios of Caesarea (q.v.). He also wrote a Syntagma, a collection of the acts of the Council of Nicaea (q.v.) in 325, to demonstrate how far from the council were the views of the Monophysites (q.v.).
